Pink Prison (a poem)
A Poem on the Emptiness of One's Mind

Pink Prison
Pink are the walls which entrap me.
They withhold my freedom within its bounds.
Bleak shades of crimson,
how they taunt
laughter that cuts like clippers to a thorn;
my rose bare without the prick
“Release me!” I plead.
Loud enough to be seen, but my echoes
rebound off its limits
fading into its endless extents
just another thought to be forgotten
what could’ve been.
How cruel must you be, pink jailor?
Must your captivity keep me here?
Never to behold the warmth of the pink which spreads word?
Never to cast a moment of roseiness upon another’s cell?
Stranded!
Nowhere to gallop; Nowhere to dance.
Not a soul spared from the curse of the crimson drought
Monotonous are the days
in my cave, over,
and over.
And so it is here the cat’s clasp turns mine numb
no commentary to add once the day’s done.
for it is the pink prison which prevents my song from being sung
a sentence to peace, to silence,
‘til another one comes.

My first piece of poetry I have shared with the world!
‘Pink Prison’ embodies the emptiness of one’s mind; feeling trapped within your thoughts, unable to gather the correct words to express your ideas. Falling silent.
I often find a period of limitless inspiration is followed by one of vacancy. Though I may have the urge to find inspiration, my mind sometimes falls short, leaving a temporary void of creation.
My article on inspiration (‘Inspiration Is Inherent) dives deeper into this theme:
I’d love to hear your opinions on this poem. There’s a space for your thoughts here, too!

i love the juxtaposition going on..usually pink is thought to be a comfy, fluffy color if that makes sense. gorgeous writing !!
“Pink Prison” is such a clever title because pink is usually associated with softness and comfort, yet here it feels restrictive. That contrast made the poem hit harder for me. Lovely piece :)
